Ronwen Williams breaks Andre Arendse’s record as Bafana Bafana wins AFCON 3rd place.
After defeating DR Congo 6-5 on penalties in the tournament’s third-place play-off on Saturday, Bafana Bafana won the bronze medal at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.
Ronwen Williams, the team’s captain and goalkeeper, led from the front once more in the tense penalty shootout by saving two shots.
Williams broke former goalkeeper Andre Arendse’s record by keeping his fifth clean sheet in an AFCON.

After the game ended in a 0-0 draw, penalties were immediately in session and Williams was left to step up to the plate soon after and delivered after the two teams were unable to break the tie during regulation time.
