Mamelodi Sundowns ended another successful league campaign with a 3-2 win over Royal AM to clinch the PSL title (Their fifth in a row).
28-year-old Namibian-born striker Peter Shalulile scored his 23rd goal of the season, two just shy of Collins Mbesuma’s record 25 goals in a single PSL season. His record has been standing for the past 17 years.
Collins Mbesuma set the record for the most goals scored in a single PSL season back in the 2004/05 season while playing for Soweto club Kaizer Chiefs. He was named PSL player of the season that year.
“First of all we have to give glory to God, my teammates, and everyone involved this year,” he expressed in the post-match interview.
Shalulile says he is “not satisfied” with his 23 goals as he’d like to eclipse Collins Mbesuma’s record.
