Kaya 959 Traffic Reporter and Journalist, Tsikwe “Iron Man” Molobye is taking on a 6.5-day mountain bike stage ride.
Tsikwe is riding for a special reason close to his heart and says that the Old Mutual go2berg ride is not only a great way to explore South Africa, but it gives riders a chance to ride for a cause.
“This is an important ride for me and the NGO I’m riding for is Elephants, Rhino & People (ERP).
The organisation protects South Africa’s wild elephants and rhinos by helping to alleviate poverty in rural communities, adjacent to threatened elephant and rhino populations.
Bikes for ERP is trying to raise money for children in impoverished areas. Next month we’re going to be delivering the bikes to the children.
This is important to me because children in these rural areas sometimes have to travel on average about 10km a day, to and from school.
You go to school after that long walk, you’re already tired, then you have to spend the day in school, walk back home, get home you still have to do chores and homework.
So, the bikes will help them to get to school in a much quicker way, so they can focus on just passing. That’s why this NGO is so important to me.”
Tsikwe, who lives a multifaceted life, is riding from the Free State to KwaZulu-Natal, covering an average of 90km a day, through rural areas and farms, camping in between.
What does it feel like to to biking almost 90km a day? Tsikwe says that everything hurts, but when he’s not behind the traffic desk at Kaya 959, the “Iron Man” is triathlon enthusiast and he’s soldiering on.
Tsikwe shared pictures and videos of his 6.5 day mountain bike ride and urged people to go to the https://www.erp.ngo/ERP website to donate to this good cause.
