Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the number of positive coronavirus cases has jumped to 709. This means that 155 new cases were recorded since yesterdays confirmed number of 554. This comes as the country continues with preparations for the national lockdown that will come into effect tomorrow at midnight
In the lead up to the lockdown, officials are set to release the exact locations that members of the South African National Defence (SANDF) force will be deployed. Soldiers will be at the disposal of the police during the 21 days in order to execute tasks, such as searches and cordons.
Under regulations of the Open Chariot, soldiers will be guided by the rule of minimum force.
Chairperson of the parliamentary portfolio committee on defence and military veterans, Cyril Xaba had this to say.
