When you choose marriage for the second time around, there are many obstacles that you may not be aware of.
From being divorced to meeting someone who wants to be your forever, there are important things you need to take into consideration.
It is no walk in the park, according to research, the divorce rate among remarried spouses is 60%, which is greater than the 50% and falling divorce rate among first marriages.
Remarried couples that stay together for the first five years, on the other hand, have a significantly better probability of staying married. As a result, remarried couples encounter certain unique problems, particularly in the beginning.
Point of view with Phemelo Motene spoke to Magauta and Nhlanhla Zwane who are Marriage Counsellors about things to consider when you are getting married for the second time.

When people remarry, they frequently transfer toxic relationship patterns and trust concerns from their previous marriage into the new relationship, which can destroy it.
This baggage can sometimes lead to couples rushing into marriage without properly getting to know each other.
For example, if your prior spouse betrayed you, you may be sceptical of your current partner and lack faith in them.
“I believe we were made for a forever with one person. Not the ‘ngena phuma’ we are doing. That’s why as you ‘ngena phuma’ with multiple people, you eventually become this cold person who has got many stars everywhere, the minister of this, and that. They take care of whatever.”
Magauta and Nhlanhla Zwane suggest that the best way to beat the odds and make your second marriage succeed is to create a culture of appreciation and respect in your home.
It’s also crucial to risk being vulnerable with your partner so that you can build trust and intimacy.
Determination, respect, acceptance, positive communication, and having a good sense of humor can go a long way in making sure your second marriage lasts a lifetime.
