There’s no guarantee that saying ‘I love you,’ will be met with the same enthusiasm and reciprocation that it’s given.
The chances of rejection should not be discounted and it takes a leap of faith to declare your love for someone.
For most people, waiting for an eager, ‘I love you too’ in response is the expectation. But, there are less enthusiastic ways that some people react to hearing those 3 words in relationships.
Feel Good listeners share with Andy Maqondwana surprising responses to that famous 7 letter declaration.
Surprising responses to I Love You
- ‘You do? Awww!”
Take this at face value to mean that the feeling is most certainly not mutual. Yes, you could argue that you may have caught the other person off guard and they were not ready for you to express how you feel. But it’s usually not a good sign that someone responds in this way.
- ‘Thank you.”
Talk about conceited. While it’s polite for someone to thank you, it’s not a common response to hearing how someone feels about you. A person is pouring their heart out to you and all you can muster in response is a feeble thank you? Take your L and walk on.
- ‘You don’t love me, you just love the sex!’
Generally if someone responds in a way that doesn’t include how they feel about you in return, it’s a sign they’re not that into you.
- ‘I love you too. But only as a friend.”
Go to the friend zone. Do not proceed further.
- “Why? You just complicated a good thing!”
Chances are the person just wanted to maintain a friends with benefits arrangement without the complications of any emotional attachment.
