Life begins at forty, or so the saying goes and science backs this notion too.
Despite many people, especially women dreading approaching the big 4-0, research shows that more adults are enjoying the perks of life in their 40s.
According to researchers, adults in their 40s are more comfortable with with their sense of purpose and are generally in a better space mentally than people in their 20s.
This comes with experience, understanding their potential and owning their life and choices.
Previously, Feel Good with Andy Maqondwana touched on some of the biggest lies about your 30s.
The adage, “Grind in your 20s. Build in your 30s. Chill in your 40s,” was highlighted as the general advice adults are given.
What the 40s bring a lot of people is clarity on who they are and an understanding that life is short. Most adults in their 40s don’t take life for granted.
Perks of life in your 40s
Never say die attitude – There’s nothing life can throw at a 40-something year-old that they can’t figure out. This resilient attitude to taking whatever life throws at them with a pinch of salt, speaks to the wisdom that comes with the age.
Better understanding about relationships – People in their forties no longer feel the need to stay in relationships that don’t serve them. It’s easier to walk away and pursue their happiness solo than to stay in an unhappy marriage or relationship.
No time for flaky friendships – Because time is of the essence, friendships that are manipulative and not helping adults grow are cut. The same goes for family. People in their forties have a small circle of people who are supportive, loyal and there no matter what.
Solace in solitude – Gain new insight into the person you really are. Enjoy the silence and give into the quirks that make you, YOU. Whether you are newly single or have been single for a while, loving yourself is the first step. Love all your flaws, weaknesses, strengths, inner demons, everything that makes you unique.
Comfortable financially – Adults in the forties don’t take wealth for granted. With a clear understanding that planning for the future is important, many prioritize their finances and save for a rainy day.
