Hotels, lodges and Airbnb accommodation venues report items that are commonly stolen every day.
Despite offering guests complimentary amenities such as shampoos, soaps, hairdryers, towels and bathrooms, many guests still steal items
This Monday on Feel Good with Andy Maqondwana, listeners were asked to share which items they either forget to pack or which items they’re likely to steal from hotel rooms.
In a study in which 1,157 hotels were surveyed, the top 3 items stolen from hotel rooms are:
- Towels
- Bathrobes
- Hangers
This is true for both 4-star and 5-star hotels where the above complimentary items are taken by guests.
These are also usually the items that many people forget to pack when they’re travelling.
Believe it or not but some hotels even reported artwork that went missing from the walls and bedding.
If it fits inside their suitcases, guests who have a penchant for stealing litle “nik-naks” from hotels, find a way to leave with their stolen items.
One of the strangest items stolen from hotel rooms, were a shower-head, and a toilet seat. While the shower-head is an understandable steal, why would anyone want to steal a toilet seat from a hotel?
That’s just unhygienic to say the least. Imagine walking out of a hotel with a used toilet seat in your luggage. Gross!
Here’s a list of 15 items commonly stolen from hotel rooms:
- Towels
- Bathrobes
- Hangers
- Pens
- Cutlery
- Batteries
- Blankets
- Pillows
- Dishes
- Remote controls for TVs, DStvs and aircons
- Hairdryers
- Light bulbs
- Coffee Machines
- Lamps
- Mirrors
