Jenny Cry-William spoke to Derek Kilpin, CEO of wine importer and distributor Great Domaines about this exciting news for wine collectors.
Listen to the full conversation here:
“A lot of the wines are sort of the blue-chip wines, the producers of the wines are fairly sensitive about how those are handled.Iff they are sold in South Africa, they want them to stay in South Africa. For the seller, there are wines that people will scramble all over the world for. I think the main thing is that it is a really deep collection of wine.”
Buying timeless fine wines
The plan is to auction off the wines over the next 5-6 years. Kilpin spoke about how the sale of these wines will allow collectors to buy time, as most wine collectors buy wines and wait for them to mature. In this case, they will have access to wine that has already matured to add to their collection.
Renowned Chef Chantel Dartnall, Cellar Master Cobus du Plessis and Sommelier Moses Magwaza have announced that the contents of this extraordinary cellar will be available for purchase from 29 March 2021 through fine wine importer and distributor Great Domaines.
