A relative of the only survivor of the Zandspruit mob attack says that the informal settlement is not fit for humans.
The family member believes that the environment led the survivor to drug addiction.
While the survivor admits to drug use, he denies any involvement in the criminal activities he and the 8 killed were accused of.
According to an older relative, the survivor is an obedient young man who is not a troublemaker at home.
She says that he is intelligent and did well at school.
For the survivor’s relative, Zandspruit itself is the problem. She says that the way people live in the informal settlement is bound to lead to social problems.
Watch the exclusive interview below:
Both the survivor and their relative are hoping to receive counselling from government and police protection. The survivor has since left Zandspruit and is currently in hiding.
