The National Liquor Traders Council says it is pleased that the sale of alcohol in the tavern space will be able to continue over the Easter weekend.
This follows an announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa on restrictions ahead of the long weekend.
The sale of alcohol for on-site consumption at restaurants, taverns, and bars will be allowed until 11pm.
However, off-site consumption has been prohibited over the four-day period starting on Friday.
“This pandemic is still very much with us. We must act with caution, not just this coming weekend but in the days, weeks and months ahead.
“We do not know when the coronavirus pandemic will be behind us, but we all know what must be done,” Ramaphosa said in his speech.
More discussions needed
Chair of the South African Liquor Brand Owners Association, Sibani Mngadi, has also weighed in on the matter.
He says they will continue to have discussions with government about its decision to limit the sale of alcohol.
