“I can recognise you are the world’s number one DJ, but you can’t force me to respect you.”
That’s what Prince Kaybee had to say when quizzed about his alleged beef with DJ Black Coffee.
Kaybee made the comments during an interview with ‘Everything SA Music’.
The musician says respect and recognition are two different things.
“I’ve got this thing about me of which, apparently, is being arrogant. I really need you to earn my respect from a very personal point. Respect and recognition are two different things.
“… Respect is personal. I can recognise you as the best player in the world but what is it that you have shown me to respect you?”
Heated Twitter exchange
Prince Kaybee and Black Coffee made headlines in 2020 when they engaged in a heated Twitter exchange.
The drama started when the ‘Gugulethu’ hitmaker shared a cryptic post on Twitter about local celebrities.
“The problem is that celebrities fall for the same trap all the time, ‘the urge to sound wise’. You watch a few YouTube videos, you wanna sound intelligent. Carry on, you will meet your maker,” he wrote.
While Prince Kaybee did not mention any names, many thought he was talking about DJ Euphonik.
The pair had earlier argued about giving up-and-coming DJs industry advice.
Black Coffee, who is friends with Euphonik, decided to get something off his chest: “Here’s a question without the “urge of sounding intelligent “…..are you a celebrity?”
He later deleted the tweet. Prince Kaybee replied that he was not concerned about titles.
Ok.
