South Africa’s unemployment rate fell to 34.5 per cent in the first quarter of 2022, down from 35.3 per cent the previous quarter, according to the statistics office.
Statistics South Africa reported that the number of unemployed persons increased to 7.862 million in the three months ending in March, compared to 7.921 million in the preceding three months.

According to StatsSA, the graduate unemployment rate (12.6 per cent) is 21,9 per cent lower than the country’s official unemployment rate.
Over 93% of graduates & those with other tertiary education received full salaries in Q1:2022.The share of graduates receiving full salary increased by 0,6 of a percentage point between Q4:2021 (94,5%) & Q1:2022 (95,1%).

According to the agency, 370 000 new jobs were created in the first quarter of 2022, compared to the fourth quarter of the previous year.
Social services, manufacturing, and trade industries provided the majority of jobs.
