It was previously reported that Al Ahly are currently in talks for a new contract for the South African head coach after instructions from club president Mahmoud El-Khatib.
Mosimane is regarded very highly by the Al Ahly fans, having guided them to back-to-back CAF Champions League titles, the CAF Super Cup, the CWC bronze medal, as well as the Egypt Super Cup.

Al Ahly legend Ahmed Shobeir has reportedly revealed the ‘real reasons’ behind the contract stalemate between Pitso Mosimane and the club.
Speaking to Egyptian publication Kingfut he said:
“Al Ahly didn’t appreciate leaked information in the South African media about the contract extension, so Mosimane’s requests were leaked as well.
“Mosimane’s agent was the one who pushed for a contract extension, her requests were increasing salary, she also asked for full-year payment in case of dismissal. Al Ahly refused both requests.
“However, Al Ahly are willing to extend the contract but with penal clause being three months, not a full year, but there is no rush.”
Al Ahly are currently preparing for the 2021/2022 season campaign as they will be trying to reclaim the Egyptian Premier League title they lost to arch-rivals Zamalek last season.
