A Free State pastor is due in court on charges of rape and human trafficking. The 54-year-old man was arrested by Hawks officers at the weekend.
Hawks Free State spokesperson, Captain Christopher Singo, said the woman was offered a domestic job at the pastor’s home.
“She was also asked to look after his 4-year-old son. The woman was told the pastor would be attending a church service in Thaba Nchu overnight and she must look after the boy,” Singer said.
It is alleged that the man did not leave the house and raped the woman repeatedly on Friday and Saturday nights.
Victim flees with pastor’s son
The woman managed to get hold of the pastor’s phone and contacted the police. She fled with the phone and the pastor’s son.
Singer said the Hawks team were contacted to assist the victim, which led to the arrest of the suspect at his residence in Lakeview Bloemspruit.
The police recovered a vehicle that was reported stolen in the Park Road Police station in Bloemfontein during the arrest of the suspect.
“The suspect is expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court on Wednesday where he will be facing charges of rape, trafficking in person and possession of stolen motor vehicle.
