South Africa’s golden girl, Nomzamo Mbatha, has appeared on yet another big American talk show.
The actress sat down for a virtual interview with fellow Mzansi star, Trevor Noah, on ‘The Daily Social Distancing Show’.
The pair discussed Nomzamo’s breakout role in ‘Coming 2 America’. Nomzamo plays a lead role in the film alongside Eddie Murphy, Wesley Snipes and Arsenio Hall.
Her character, Mirembe, is a royal groomer. Mirembe is Lavelle Junson’s (played by Jermaine Fowler) love interest.
Mingling with A-list stars
Nomzamo told Trevor it was surreal being on a first-name basis with some of America’s A-list stars.
“It is crazy. Honestly, it’s been an out-of-body experience for the longest time. But I think you would be able to let me know how to go about this Hollywood thing, because having to call Eddie Murphy, Eddie… it’s been an amazing journey,” she said.
Adjusting to life in America
Nomzamo also shared details about her own coming to America experience.
The actress, who is currently based in Los Angeles, admits it took some getting used to.
“When you come to America, I think you have said this before, about the eating. There’s the first couple of months of just eating and thinking it’s not going to go anywhere.
“And then you wanna go home, and everyone says: ‘My goodness, America has been so good to you. Your cheeks!” I try not to eat a lot,” she laughed.
Nomzamo said she also had to get used to crossing the street in America – where motorists drive on the right side of the road.
“It was kind of very hard for me in the beginning. I was trying not to die in America. It’s very expensive to transport a body home… I had a lot of culture shock but there’s a lot of learning as well.”
Trevor gave Nomzamo some tips on how to adjust to life in LA, especially if she wants to go hiking.
“You need to get a really nice dog and then you need to go for a hike but then you need to dress as if you didn’t’ care but you have to dress as if you are on a runway.
“Then you go for the hike. Make sure you don’t’ sweat but make it look like you were working out.”
