A yellow level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms in Gauteng has put Johannesburg Emergency Services on high alert.
Residents in the majority of KwaZulu-Natal, the southwestern regions of Mpumalanga, the Free State, the North West, and the far northeastern regions of the Northern Cape are predicted to see severe thunderstorms and hail on Monday, according to the South African Weather Services (Saws).
According to Robert Mulaudzi, the spokesperson for the Johannesburg Emergency Medical Services, all specialized units, including the aquatic rescue team that handles all water-related situations, were ready to go.
“Severe thunderstorms in most parts of City of Johannesburg with the threats of #FlashFloods and traffic disruptions, residents who are residing in low lying areas are urged to avoid crossing river streams when conducting daily activities,
“Motorists are urged to exercise caution while driving extend safe following distance avoid crossing flooded roads/bridges,” Mulaudzi said.
