In an inspired turn of events, Bafana Bafana’s sterling winner against Morocco on Tuesday, 30 January takes the home team through to the Afcon Quarter Finals.
Bafana Bafana beat Morocco 2 – 0 to crush the North African side’s Afcon hopes. Morocco went into the last 16 clash against Bafana as the favourites to win, with the odds against South Africa after a dismal start to the competition.
A goal from Evidence Makgopa in the 57th minute put Bafana Bafana in the lead, and Teboho Mokoena scored the second goal, which sealed the victory in stoppage time.
Mokoena’s goal preceeded Morocco’s Sofyan Amrabat being sent off with a red card in the 94th minute.
Bafana Bafana Head Coach, Hugo Broos hailed his team’s victory over Morocco.
“I don’t think I have to tell you I’m very happy.
We beat Morocco and it is not only because we are in the Quarter Finals that I’m happy, beating a team like Morocco is something special.
This is a very good team, with very good players. But, we did the right analysis, and I think the way we played, our tactics were right.”
