Former President Thabo Mbeki launched yet another attack on the ruling party on Thursday.
He did this while paying tribute to Struggle stalwart and trade unionist Rita Ndzanga, who died on Wednesday at the age of 88.
Ndzanga was remembered as a titan of democracy, an anti-apartheid campaigner, and a tough trade unionist who led the charge in organizing and developing labour unions to oppose apartheid brutality in the workplace in the 1950s at a memorial service in Soweto.
Mbeki spoke about the ruling party’s failures and how they have failed to decisively deal with corruption within its ranks.

The African National Congress, according to Mbeki, must generate more leaders like Ndzanga and get rid of the crooked ones who seek to advance their own interests.
“We can’t cheat the masses of the people, we can’t. The masses of people know who is wrong, who is bad amongst us.”
“I am sure you can go to all the townships here in Soweto and the people will say why is the ANC keeping so and so.”
“So I am saying we are fortunate in that, therefore we have this examiner that is the people who will give us the marks to say we have passed so when we engage the process of renewal it has to be genuine.” said Mbeki,

We’re fortunate in another respect.
We can’t cheat the masses of the people, you can’t.
The masses of the people will know who is wrong, who’s bad among us.
