Lesotho is inaugurating its new Prime Minister Sam Matekane today, Friday 28 October.
At a ceremony on Friday at Maseru’s Setsoto Stadium, the rich businessman turned politician is being sworn in as Lesotho’s next prime minister in front of dignitaries from all over the continent.
With a net worth of $10 billion in 2021, the diamond magnate was declared the richest person in Lesotho.

The Revolution for Prosperity (RFP) party, which Sam Matekane, the incoming prime minister of Lesotho, founded only six months ago, won 56 of the country’s 120 parliamentary seats in the most recent elections.

Cyril Ramaphosa, the president of South Africa, will be present for Matekane’s swearing-in as prime minister.
According to a Thursday article in The Lesotho Times, the prime minister is set to pay for his own inauguration.
