Gogo Maweni, real name Makgotso Lee-Anne Mofokeng, appeared in the Protea North Magistrate’s Court on Monday where she was facing charges of assault.
This follows the arrest of the popular traditional healer at her home in Fairlands on Sunday afternoon.
According to reports, the full details of the case were not disclosed however it has been revealed that Maweni assaulted a victim in 2019.
EWN says Maweni’s attorney argued that the media should not broadcast the matter.
However, Magistrate Rozelle Khaye dismissed the application and allowed the media to record and film the proceedings.

She was arrested yesterday around 3 in the afternoon.

The case has been postponed to next week for a formal bail application and Maweni has been remanded in police custody.
“Your matter is postponed until next week Monday 27 January 2025 for formal bail application. Until then you will be in custody, no bail,” Khaye said.
Maweni recently made headlines for her public feud with sangoma and TV personality Gogo Skhotheni (Patricia Motsoeneng).
The two had a heated back and forth exchange on social media.
The traditional healers have since made amends and publicly apologised for their feud.
