The N3 toll route on Van Reenen’s Pass, KwaZulu-Natal has been reopened after an arson attack on Saturday, 08 July forced the road to be closed.
This after a gang of 6 armed men forced the truck drivers out of their vehicles, and set fire to all the trucks.
Clean-up operations were carried out, with the burnt trucks being removed with cranes.
According to the N3 Toll Concession said while the southbound lanes are opened, the northbound carriageway, towards Johannesburg will remain closed until repairs on the road can be completed.
“The northbound carriageway will remain closed until repairs can be completed and the road can be deemed safe for passage.
Motorists have been advised to continue to expect congestion and delays in the area. Please slow down and continue to approach the area with caution.”

KwaZulu-Natal police say a motive for the arson attack on the truck remains unclear at this stage but an investigation of malicious damage to property is underway.
The arson attack has been described as a well-coordinated attack on the road freight industry, two years after the July unrest.
