A US man has spent over R3 million on surgery to make him taller so he can get more dates and be more attractive to women.
Moses Gibson said he struggled to get a girlfriend because he was too short, and decided to go for leg-lengthening surgery to give him a leg up in the dating world.
The 41-year old from Minnesota said he’d initially tried medication to “help him grow”, and even sought help from a spiritual healer to make him taller.
With his short frame weighing him down, Gibson wanted a permanent solution and decided to undergo two excruciating procedures to give him a more desirable height.
Gibson shared that he was just 1.65m before he underwent his first leg-lengthening surgery in 2016, which cost R1.3 million.
The first surgery added 7 centimeters to his height.
After his first surgery, Gibson said he was somewhat happy with his new height but wanted to take it a step further, so in March this year, Gibson spent an additional R1.7 million to take his height to 1.77m.
Gibson worked two jobs to be able to save enough money to pay for his surgery, as a software engineer by day and an Uber driver at night.
It took him 3-years to save enough and says he is a lot happier and more confident now.
The surgery entails doctors breaking Gibson’s tibia and fibula bones and screwing in magnetic, limb-lengthening nails into his bones.
Gibson then used a height-lengthening device three times a day in order to pull the cut bones apart a millimeter at a time.
