A University of Pretoria student was shot dead on Saturday morning for his cell phone.
The University of Pretoria confirmed with “great shock and sadness” the passing of one of its students – a 23 year old male learner – in the early hours of Saturday morning in Hatfield, close to the Tuksdorp residence.
The suspect has been arrested.
“We strongly condemn the violence. Our thoughts and prayers are with the student’s friends and family, whom we are offering counseling,” read a statement from UP.
The University has asked students to walk in packs to the residence, especially in the dark, or make use of their UP Green Route where security will escort them personally.
According to SAPS, the two suspects aged 38 and 33 have already appeared before Pretoria Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 12 September 2022.
They are facing charges of murder, armed robbery, and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
