Flights in the UK have been grounded to an excessive heatwave which is causing runways to melt.
With temperatures reaching record highs over 40 degrees Celsius, there are warnings of the heatwave causing further damage.
Already the extreme weather conditions have caused fires to spread throughout the UK. The country which is usually on the colder end of the temperature scale, is ill-prepared to handle such high temperatures.
Earlier this week, London’s Luton airport had to have flights grounded after the runway melted, making the surface unsafe for flights to takeoff or land.
Only 1% of homes in Britain have air-conditioning and houses are built to retain heat, leaving residents looking for other means to drop the temperatures inside their homes.
While engineers were called in to urgently repair the runway, there are concerns the fresh tar will just melt again, so the situation is being monitored.
