A University of Johannesburg (UJ) student is amongst three people who were killed in a shooting incident at Braamfontein on Thursday, 29 February.
This after unknown gunmen opened fire on a BMW sedan which was parked on the Jorissen Street.
The two occupants of the BMW appear to have been the targets, and were found dead on the scene.
Another UJ student was also caught in the crossfire and was rushed to hospital.
Saddened by the death of a student, the university said all students who were on the bus will be offered counselling.
“It is with profound sadness that the University of Johannesburg has learnt of the death of its student, who was caught in crossfire during a shooting incident in Braamfontein on 29 February.
Another student is recovering hospital. The two were among the students who were travelling in a bus from the university to their places of residence in Johannesburg City Centre.
The deceased, an 18-year old male, was a second year student.”
The motive for the shooting has not been established but police are said to be on the hunt for the suspects.
