Police in Acornhoek are investigating a case of armed robbery that occurred in the Happy Dam area on 12 December 2025.
According to police, a 43-year-old man reported that he was driving his taxi home when the incident took place. After arriving at his residence, he parked outside his yard and was getting out of the vehicle when he was allegedly approached by four armed men. The suspects reportedly held him at gunpoint, disarmed him of his firearm and robbed him of an undisclosed amount of cash.
A case of armed robbery was opened, and two suspects, both aged 16, were later arrested. Police confirmed that the suspects are minors and that they are working closely with probation officers as part of the investigation.
The two minors face charges of armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm. Their court appearance at the Acornhoek Magistrate’s Court will be facilitated in collaboration with probation officers.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, said police are committed to ensuring that the remaining suspects are brought to justice.
“We will work diligently to ensure that the outstanding suspects are swiftly apprehended,” said Mkhwanazi. He also urged members of the public to report any information relating to crime to the police.
