Two pupils have been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a Grade 11 learner at Lesedi Secondary School.
Lethabo Matula was stabbed outside the school premises in Pretoria East earlier this week. He was attacked after school while boarding the school bus home.
One of the pupils is alleged to have held Lethabo while the other, a matric learner, allegedly stabbed him three times.
Additionally, the Department of Education in Gauteng revealed that there was a bullying incident between the trio.
Although the arrest may bring some relief and comfort to the deceased’s family, they still face the painful task of preparing for their teenage son’s burial.
Speaking to Kaya News outside the school on Friday, the family called for justice to be served for Lethabo.
The two pupils are scheduled to appear before the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrates Court on Friday, 20 June 2025.
Meanwhile, Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane urged students at Lesedi Secondary School to report incidents of bullying promptly.
Chiloane added that Lesedi’s murder was premeditated. Both 19-year-old pupils, also from Lesedi Secondary, were absent from school on the day of the incident.
They allegedly arrived after midday, wearing balaclavas, and allegedly approached Lethabo as he was about to board the school bus home.
