Days before he was supposed to accept the official Republican presidential nomination, Donald Trump escaped a weekend assassination attempt.
According to CNN, this incident would deepen the political rift in the United States and raise concerns about security shortcomings. Just as Trump, 78, was about to start a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, which is located approximately 30 miles (50 km) north of Pittsburgh, gunfire broke out, striking the former president’s right ear and leaving a bloodstain on his face.
Less than four months have passed since the shooting, which took place before Trump’s rematch with Democratic President Joe Biden on November 5. According to most opinion surveys, including those conducted by Reuters and Ipsos, the two are in a tight race.
According to the FBI, there has been an attempt on Trump’s life, and they are conducting a “active and ongoing investigation” into the matter. According to Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesperson for the US Secret Service, the suspect was shot and killed on the spot by a sniper.
He further mentioned that both of the critically injured bystanders and the lone bystander who died in the incident were men. Their true identities are still unknown.
