The truck driver who crashed into a bakkie carrying 19 pupils and two adults has been arrested, the KZN Department of Transport (DOT) stated on Saturday.
This comes after he reportedly turned himself into the police a few hours after Sipho Hlomuka, the transport MEC, pleaded with him to do so.
Police began a manhunt for the driver who is believed to have fled the scene of the collision after filing a case of culpable homicide.

He appeared in court on Monday and has been remanded in custody. His bail application is set for 26 September for further investigation.
“His arrest is important in assisting the families to deal with the devastation of losing their relatives. We commend the police [for ensuring the driver surrendered]. We will be there to support the people of Pongola and the families during his court appearance on Monday,” said Hlomuka.
