Trial of four people involved in a R400m tender fraud to commence in May 2024.
In a case involving over R400 million in tender fraud, four people are anticipated to get their day in court in May of the following year.
The contract was then investigated by the State Capture Commission, which ultimately recommended opening a criminal investigation.
The North West Provincial Government (NWPG) awarded the contract to airline SA Express in 2014.
Former provincial department of transportation director Thabang Mohlokoleng, as well as Tebogo Van Wyk, Nothando Dube, and Sipho Phiri, as well as the businesses Batsamai Investment Holdings, Sevilex Investment Holdings, and Lavao Estevao (PTY) Ltd., will be on trial in May 2024.

The allegations originate from the province government’s 2014 attempt to return commercial flights to airports in Mmabatho and Pilanesberg on a subsidy of about R400 million, according to Henry Mamothame, regional spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
“An amount of R183 million was then paid to SA Express between 2015 and 2017, for the services rendered by the ground management companies, which Van Wyk, Dube and Phiri are linked to. The State alleges that of the amount… R51 million was channelled irregularly through the charged companies,”
“The irregularly secured agreement is said to have been signed by the fourth accused. Mohlokoleng signed on behalf of the Department of Transport as the then Accounting Officer, in his capacity as the head of the department. The deal was allegedly riddled with procurement irregularities and monies were paid for services not rendered. ” said Mamothame
