A Thailand community is still recovering from a deadly massacre that claimed 36 lives, of which 24 were children.
The mainly Buddhist town of Uthai Sawan, which is about 500 km from Bangkok, were forced to pick up the pieces after a deadly attack on a day care on 06 October.
An ex-police officer reportedly went on a rampage, shooting and stabbing the children and adults along his way, before returning home to kill his wife and child, before turning the gun on himself.
On Saturday, 08 October, hundreds of mourners gathered at temples in Thailand to hold a mass prayer for the victims and families.
The massacre is being described as the country’s deadliest attacks, with the youngest victims falling between the ages of 2 to 5-years old.
Panya Kamrap, a 34-year old former police sergeant was facing drug charges and was set to appear on trial before he targeted the daycare.
Only one child survived his savage attack, a 3-year old girl who was asleep, covered under a blanket on the daycare floor.
The girl escaped unscathed because the perpetrator thought she was already dead from him mercilessly shooting around the room.
On the day of the shooting only 25 children were present, due to bad weather conditions and the school bus being out of order.
There are usually 90 children at the daycare, including the attackers child who used to attend until a month ago.
One of the victims was a teacher who was 8-months pregnant.
According to reports the children were killed while they were sleeping.
