Snoop Dogg has shared his frustration after finding out that his music reached one billion Spotify plays, and he has criticized the lack of transparency on streaming services.
The head of Death Row Records questioned earlier this year why musicians were getting paid so little by music-streaming services.
After going “off-script” during an AI discussion at The Milken Institute’s 2023 Global Conference in Beverly Hills in May, his views on money made from streaming platforms sparked a widespread debate.

During his appearance on the Business Untitled podcast, he recounted a discussion he had with his publisher regarding payments for streaming about how his billion streams were worth less than $45K (roughly R850K)
Snoop Dogg asked, “Can someone explain to me how you can get a billion streams and not get a million dollars? That s### don’t make sense to me.
“They just sent me some s### from Spotify where I got a billion streams,” Snoop Dogg recalled. “My publisher hit me. I said, ‘Break that down. How much money is that?’ That s### wasn’t even $45,000.”
Snoop Dogg received a $45K check for reaching 1 billion streams on Spotify.
