- SAPS has arrested the deputy principal of The Samit Christian Academy in connection with the murder of the school’s 61-year-old principal in Tembisa.
- The principal was shot and killed at his home in Maokeng Extension during an incident initially believed to be a house robbery.
- Police say investigations are ongoing, more arrests are expected, and the suspect is due to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed the arrest of the deputy principal of The Samit Christian Academy in connection with the murder of the school’s principal in Tembisa on Sunday, 14 December 2025.
The 61-year-old principal was shot and killed at his home in Maokeng Extension during the early hours of Sunday morning in an incident that was initially believed to be a house robbery.
According to SAPS, four suspects allegedly used an axe to break into the home, assaulted the principal’s wife and son, and stole cellphones, laptops and money before fleeing the scene.
Gauteng Deputy Police Commissioner Fred Kekana confirmed the arrest of the deputy principal and said investigations are ongoing.
“A team was established immediately to follow up on the investigation. The team managed to arrest the deputy principal of the same school, who will be appearing in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday,” said Kekana.
Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi stated that more arrests are anticipated, while the suspect is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 17 December 2025.
This incident follows a double murder at Inxiweni Primary School in Tembisa on 18 November 2025, where the school’s principal, Nozibele Ruth Tabu (58), and an administrative staff member, Nobantu Njomboni (55), were fatally shot inside the school’s administration block while preparing for a meeting in the late afternoon.
One of the suspects arrested was a 26-year-old woman employed at the school.
