- Authorities say one vehicle lost control and crossed into the opposite lane, with high speed suspected.
- An investigation is underway, and the MEC has urged motorists to drive cautiously.
Seven lives were instantly cut short when a sedan and a light delivery vehicle collided on the N12 between Ogies and Emalahleni in the early hours of Monday morning, 8 December 2025, in Mpumalanga.
One of the vehicles reportedly lost control and veered completely off the road, colliding with the oncoming vehicle.
Officials in Mpumalanga explained that the roadway has a wide space between the two directions, each with multiple lanes, suggesting that one of the vehicles may have been travelling at high speed.
Five of the deceased were occupants of the sedan, while two men were in the LDV.
There were no survivors. The sedan carried two females and three males.
Police, the Road Traffic Management Corporation, and the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison have launched an investigation into the crash.
Authorities say reckless or negligent driving cannot be ruled out.
Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie, urged motorists to exercise heightened caution.
“Let us all be cautious on the road to curb needless loss of life and injury. We should all endeavour to abide by the rules of the road at all times,” Macie said.
