A serial rapist has pleaded guilty to 148 charges, which include 93 rape cases.
In the Palm Ridge magistrate’s court on Tuesday, a suspected serial rapist from Ekurhuleni entered a plea of guilty to all charges.
Nkosinathi Emmanuel Phakathi, 32, is accused of rape, sexual assault, kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances, theft, and possession of an unregistered handgun, among other crimes.
His rape rampage began in 2012, with victims in the east of Benoni, including Daveyton, Putfontein, and Crystal Park, ranging in age from 12 to 20.

Since his arrest in March of last year, Phakathi, a resident of Daveyton on the East Rand, has been confined to a prison hospital.
When he allegedly tried to escape from police officers who had arrived to arrest him, he was shot in the leg.
Since then, his leg has been amputated.
He is also charged with 148 counts overall.
Phakathi was originally charged with 203 offences, but according to National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana, the state withdrew 55 of the accusations, bringing the total to 148.
