Sasria has launched the July 2021 unrest documentary.
The South African Special Risk Insurance Association (Sasria) has released a documentary named The Unrest two years after the events of July 2021.
The film had its world premiere on Wednesday in KwaMashu, the most severely impacted region in terms of food shortages and property damage following the riots that broke out on July 9, 2021.
The eagerly awaited film describes the crucial part Sasria, a public enterprise non-life insurance firm, played during and after the turmoil in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng in July 2021.
In a statement released by SASRIA Mpumi Tyikwe, Chief Executive Officer at Sasria, praised the film as a provocative production that vividly depicts the events of those seven days.
“They were consequential days that got the world talking and demonstrated Sasria’s significance in South Africa’s socio-economic ecosystem. There is the education element as well that says yes, we can protest, but there is really no need to vandalise infrastructure, cause economic losses and risk losing lives.” said Tyikwe,
On Thursday, July 6, 2023, The Unrest will also have its Johannesburg debut at Ster-Kinekor in Sandton City.
