A South African Police Services (SAPS) detective is amongst the 7 suspects arrested for the kidnapping of Brits teenagers, Zahraa Mohammed (17) and Bataviya Mohammed (19).
The teens, who are cousins were kidnapped on Wednesday, 06 March whilst on their way to school, and were found on Monday evening, 25 March.
A multi-disciplinary team tracked the kidnapped teenagers to a house at New Stands, Klipgat near Winterveldt and Mabopane.
Six suspects were arrested during the process of locating the missing teens, and a 7th suspect, Humphrey Martin was arrested on 08 March at Naturena, Johannesburg.
Martin has already appeared at the Brits Magistrates Court and remains in custody until his bail application on 08 April.
Zahraa and Bataviya Mohammed were kidnapped in what is being described as a movie-style kidnapping, after their vehicle was bumped in the front by the suspects in a maroon Audi A3.
The Audi was reportedly a stolen vehicle, which was taken from Grasfontein in March.
It is further alleged that two armed men got out of a white Volkwagen Polo GTI and ordered the cousins to get in.
The driver of the Audi got into a Toyota Hilux allegedly driven by Humphrey Martin. The suspects then fled from the crime scene with the victims. The kidnapped Brits teen’s Mercedes Benz vehicle and the Audi A3 were found at the crime scene.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Brits Magistrates’ Court soon, facing two counts of kidnapping and extortion.
Meanwhile, the victims were examined by paramedics at Klipgat police station’s Victims Friendly Room (VFR) and found to be in a good state of health except for exhaustion and trauma. They were safely reunited with their families without any visible injuries.
The motive for the kidnapping has not been disclosed.
