SABC and MultiChoice have not yet reached an agreement on broadcasting the 2023 Rugby World Cup games.
The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has stated that it has completed the required steps to finalize a deal with pay channel behemoth MultiChoice for the broadcasting rights to the next Rugby World Cup 2023.
The news by the SABC comes only days before the tournament’s opening match, which pits host France against the fearsome All Blacks in the heart of Paris.
According to reports, the SABC has refused to pay MultiChoice R37.7 million for the exclusive right to show all potential Springbok games live.

The games will only be available on the most costly DStv Premium package’s SuperSport Grandstand and Rugby channels.
In a statement released on Thursday, a day before the Rugby World Cup, the SABC said it is awaiting feedback from Multichoice.
“The SABC can confirm that the Corporation has been in constant engagements with Multichoice and has met all their requirements to conclude the agreement regarding the Rugby World Cup 2023. At this stage, the SABC is awaiting feedback from Multichoice.” read the statement
