The South African Medical Association’s (SAMA) Chairperson, Dr. Mvuyisi Mzukwa, was stabbed over the weekend.
Mzukwa was returning from King Shaka International Airport when he was attacked on the side of the road.
He had just left a SAMA Board meeting and was heading home on Saturday.
The Department of Health wishes him a swift recovery.
On Sunday, Dr. Sibongiseni Dhlomo, the deputy minister of health, paid a visit to Mzukwa in the hospital in Durban, where he is making his recovery from numerous stab wounds.
“I was very heartened to find him on his recovery bed and commended him for his heroic action of driving himself while bleeding and in pain to the nearest hospital to save his life because had he waited a bit longer, his condition could have deteriorated,” said Dhlomo.
