A teenager in Rustenburg, 19, was arrested this past weekend after stabbing a high school learner, 18, to death.
Blessing Dintle Tladi, 19, was arrested by police in the North West for the murder of 18-year-old Lethabo Sibanda.
It is reported that on Friday, June 2, 2023, at about 15h45, police in Rustenburg received a complaint about a stabbing incident. Upon arriving at the scene, the police found members of the community gathered around a motionless body covered with a blanket.
The investigation revealed that the victim was stabbed with a sharp object in his throat. The victim, Lethabo was a Grade 11 learner from Hoerskool Tegnise in Rustenburg.
The incident ensued after the victim allegedly fought with another learner from a different school, who in turn called on a group of other learners to attack the victim’s group.
The fight which led to the fight and fatal stabbing of the victim ensued at the bus rank. Another learner who was also stabbed was transported to a local hospital by the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS).
Lethabo’s uncle says he died in his hands.
The 19-year-old suspect fled the scene after the incident, however, police traced and apprehended him. He appeared before Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, June 5, 2023, on charges of murder and attempted murder. His case was postponed to next week because he refused to speak without legal representatives.
