South African radio broadcaster Darren Scott has died after a long battle with cancer.
He was 61 years old.
According to a statement released by his employer, Hot 102.7 FM, Scott died on Tuesday, 27 May 2025, after he was diagnosed with stage 4 malignant melanoma.
“It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of a Hot 1027 radio legend. Earlier today Darren Scott lost his battle to cancer. Darren was diagnosed with stage 4 malignant melanoma. He fought the battle for many years,” the statement reads.
The statement adds that the past few months have been tough for Scott with numerous hospital stays.
Scott’s career in radio spans over four decades with stints at 5FM, Jacaranda FM, East Coast Radio and most recently at Hot 102.7 FM.
Hot 102.7 FM reports that he was also inducted into the Radio Awards Hall of Fame in 2024.
Scott leaves behind his sons Mark, Matthew, and his family.
Details regarding his memorial service and funeral are yet to be announced.
