The South African Police Service (SAPS) requests the public’s help in identifying unclaimed bodies.
There are currently 38 unidentified bodies at Brits Forensic pathology mortuary in the premises of Brits police station.
Detectives in Bojanala Platinum Sub-District, Brits request members of the community to come forward to help identify the bodies, mostly males.
The bodies were found at various places in and around Brits between 2021 and 2024. Some of the areas the bodies were discovered at include:
- Rabokala village
- Klipgat River
- Letlhabile
- Mamogaleskraal
- Bila Mine Elandskraal
- Majakaneng
- Damonsville
- Cyferskuil
- Bapong
- Marikna
- MadidiRooikoppies Lethabong
Anyone who may have information that can assist in the identification of the bodies is requested to call Colonel Simon Mokwena on 082 856 1326.
In 2023, there were over 900 unclaimed bodies in mortuaries around Gauteng.
Despite the department’s requests for families to come forward and claim their loved ones’ bodies, the department claims that families and relations are not doing so.
