US President Joe Biden has condemned the deliberate and racially charged attack, in which 10 black people were shot and killed.
Payton Gendron, an 18-year old who describes himself as a fascist and white supremacist, livestreamed his shooting spree for 2-minutes.
This was until the streaming service provider shut down this stream. Using a helmet camera, his attack took place inside a supermarket in Buffalo, New York.
Shocking footage of Gendron running through the supermarket, looking for black people to gun down was shared.
In the clip below, Payton Gendron can be heard apologizing to a white man for almost shooting him.
According to reports, Gendron posted an 180-page manifesto detailing his reasons for carrying out the attack.
Of the 13 people who were shot by Gendron, 11 were black and 10 succumbed to their gunshot wounds and died. Three others are said to be in hospital fighting for their lives.
The gunman’s attack was premeditated and he travelled for hours to get to the Tops supermarket in Buffalo.
There are reports that the 18-year old threatened to shoot his peers whilst at school. His threats were dismissed after spending a day and a half at a hospital where he underwent a mental health evaluation.
One of the victims was a retired police officer, Aaron Salter who engaged in a shootout with the gunman.
Unfortunately, he was unable to take the gunman down as he was kitted in full military gear with armour.
Gendron was arrested and charged with first-degree murder charges, to which he pleaded not-guilty.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of retired @BPDAlerts Police Officer Aaron Salter, Jr.who was shot and killed while engaging an active shooter in Buffalo, New York. May God grant him eternal rest. #NeverForget pic.twitter.com/LcRNbcVpN4
