The suspects’ arrests result from continuous operations in the province to combat crime.
According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, the suspects were apprehended in all five districts during the tracing of wanted persons, roadblocks, raiding of hotspots, and stops and searches.
“Police in Johannesburg District arrested 536 suspects for crimes ranging from murder, attempted murder, car hijacking, business robbery, fraud, possession of suspected stolen property including undocumented persons,” Masondo reported.
The police in Tshwane apprehended 430 suspects.

397 individuals were detained in Ekurhuleni on suspicion of murder, assault with the purpose to do great bodily damage, possession of the allegedly stolen property, armed robbery, and foreign nationals without legal status.
The West Rand and Sedibeng District reported that 390 suspects were detained.
