The entertainment industry is mourning the passing of renowned Nigerian actor John Okafor, better known as Mr Ibu.
Okafor passed away at age 62 due to a reported cardiac arrest. His passing was announced by Actors Guild of Nigeria President Emeka Rollas on Saturday.
“I announce with a deep sense of grief that Mr Ibu didn’t make it,” said Emeka Rollas on Saturday.
Okafor is renowned for his comic roles in Nollywood movies and has gained significant recognition across Africa for his humorous acting style.

Iconic Actor, John Ikechukwu Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu is no more. He died of cardiac arrest, aged 62. Ibu appeared in over 350 movies.

In 2023, Okafor underwent seven successful surgeries, including the amputation of one leg, in an attempt to prolong his life.

“As of 1 pm, noon today, Daddy has gone through 7 successful surgeries, but to keep him alive and increase his chances of recovery, one of his legs had to be amputated.” read the statement,
