The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced a recall of certain Range Rover Evoque and Mercedes-Benz vehicle models, following notifications from the respective suppliers.
The recall affects 2021 to 2024 and certain 2025 models of the Range Rover Evoque due to a defect with the passenger airbag.
According to the supplier, the airbag may tear during deployment because of improper folding during the assembly process.
A torn airbag may reduce occupant protection and increase the risk of injury in a crash. Additionally, a torn airbag could allow hot gases to escape, potentially causing burns to occupants, the NCC said in a statement.
Mercedes-Benz South Africa has also recalled several 2023 models — including the SL (232), EQS (297), GLC (254), S-Class (223), and C-Class (206).
The recall was prompted by a possible fault in the fuse box, which may not have been reworked as intended.
This defect could lead to the failure of systems connected to the fuse, potentially causing a sudden loss of power, impaired restraint systems, or malfunctioning instrument clusters — all of which could increase the risk of an accident.
The NCC is urging affected consumers to immediately contact the nearest authorised dealership to have the issues resolved at no cost.
