Minister Nathi Mthethwa presented Banyana Banyana with a cheque for R5.8 million at OR Tambo International Airport, providing the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions with further financial support.
After winning the WAFCON in Morocco, Banyana arrived back to South Africa on Tuesday morning to a heroes welcome from the nation.

The players had previously been guaranteed R400 000 each for winning the competition.

In addition, Mthethwa stated that the equal compensation of players for the Banyana Banyana and Bafana Bafana teams would soon be passed into law.
“It is going to be a law in this country for Banyana Banyana and Bafana Bafana to be paid equally because we are making that happen as a government. It’s not only this team, but all women’s teams. We are supporting them as the government,” Mthethwa said during his speech.
