Motorists can now travel on the R521 road near Polokwane after it was reopened following a two-day closure.
The road was temporarily shut down on Monday evening after a collision between a light delivery vehicle and an oil tanker.
Authorities closed the route as a precautionary measure due to the risk of explosion from the chemical spillage.
Limpopo Transport and Community Safety spokesperson Tidimalo expressed gratitude to motorists for their patience and cooperation during the closure.
“The R521 road from Polokwane to Dendron has reopened after a successful cleanup of a chemical spillage caused by a serious accident involving a Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) tanker and a Light Delivery Vehicle (LDV).
“We extend our thanks to all stakeholders, including the cleaning company, Municipal Environmental Health, SAPS, traffic officials, and EMS, for their tireless efforts to ensure public safety and resolve the situation,” Tidimalo said.
