The Nelson Mandela auction which was set to take place on 22 February has been suspended without reason.
Auction house Guernsey’s removed the auction of the former President’s ID book, T-shirts, hearing aid, prison keys and other priceless items from their upcoming auctions page on their website.
Over 100 items that used to belong to the late Nelson Mandela was pending an auction that would most likely have brought in millions.
After a 2-year legal battle, Nelson Mandela’s eldest daughter, Makaziwe Mandela had decided to put up personal belongings of Madiba, including his signature floral and paisley print shirts.
The South African Heritage Resource Agency (SAHRA) contested the auction going ahead citing the items that belonged to Mandela as pieces of South African history and heritage.
Mandela’s items which were up for auction were to be previewed by the Jazz Lincoln Center, in New York.
Attempts to reach Guernsey’s for comment regarding the suspension of Mandela’s auction were in vain.
